WONDERBAG FOR FOOD SECURITY
Sarah Collins is the founder of Wonderbag, a thermal cooking technology comprising a non-electric slow cooker that reduces fuel consumption by up to 70%, and allowing households to prepare wholesome meals while conserving energy resources. This heat-retention cooker allows food that has been brought to the boil by conventional methods, to continue cooking for up to eight hours without using an additional energy source.
The initiative empowers women in rural communities, providing them with sustainable livelihoods through the distribution of Wonderbags. To date, over two million Wonderbags have been distributed, enhancing food security in poor communities.
The product has been shortlisted for the Food Planet Prize Award and this accolade highlights its contributions to sustainable food systems. As Wonderbag forges ahead, its dedication to the UN Sustainable Development Goals remains steadfast. By championing responsible consumption, strengthening food security and empowering local communities, Wonderbag has become a movement advocating for social and environmental justice, ensuring that nutritious food is available to everyone.
Carbon and climate change experts have described the environmental attributes and social contributions of Wonderbag as ‘the only scalable carbon offset project in existence.’
