TERRAFORCE 45th ANNIVERSARY AND NOW FEMALE OWNED
Updated: May 9, 2024
Retaining wall business Terrforce was founded 45 years ago by Holger Rust. His two daughters, Elgin Rust and Karin Johns, have now taken over the reins of the company, whilst continuing to honour the family legacy conceived by their father. In addition to charting a new course for the company’s future, the sisters are redefining the role of women in the traditionally male-dominated construction and retaining wall industry.
In 1979, Rust began importing gabions, a conventional method of retaining walls, into South Africa, but soon recognised the need for a more cost-effective, practical and aesthetically pleasing solution. He began developing innovative earth-retaining solutions that would meet the demands of the South African landscape.
Rust and Johns inherited their father’s passion for innovation and excellence and although they have faced many challenges along the way, their resilience and commitment to quality allowed them to overcome barriers and earn respect within the construction community.
The Terraforce brand is known for its technical support, research, testing and engineering excellence, qualities that Rust and Johns will continue to uphold.
