PASSION FOR INDOOR PLANTS BECOMES A THRIVING BUSINESS

Nkhensani Rikhotso, a Soweto-born entrepreneur specialising in indoor plants, has turned her passion into a thriving business. In 2020, during the Covid pandemic and lockdown, she began to bring plants into her home to create a space of safety, serenity and calmness.

She currently has 200 varieties of plants, including ferns, succulents, palms and Ficus. With limited interaction with family and friends during lockdown, her daily life began to centre around nurturing the plants, bringing healing and inspiration in the process.

As she learned to care for each plant in its own unique way, she began sharing her lessons with others and with her creative background in digital design and marketing, she started making ‘plant content’ on social media. She soon gathered a loyal following for her plant care and styling tips, and this led to her starting an indoor plant consultancy and plant shop called Her Meraki, sharing her skills with businesses and individuals.

She was recently approached by Mr Price Home to take part in their Women’s Month Colab Collection, which focusses on the many talented women creators who contribute so much to South Africa’s economy and its vibrant creative industry. She says her designs represent a blend of nature and the female form.
