LAUNCH DATES FOR SA’S INDIGENOUS GARDEN GUIDE

A ten-year project by three of South Africa’s leading horticulturists has finally been launched, with the public being given an opportunity to meet the authors and buy a copy of South African Indigenous Garden Plants: The Gardener’s Guide, at upcoming launch events. The book’s authors are Elsa Pooley, Geoff Nichols and Andrew Hankey.
Co-published by Struik Nature, an imprint of Penguin Random House and the Flora and Fauna Publications Trust, this encyclopaedic guide offers insights into plant selection, landscaping, maintenance and ideal growing conditions. Its user-friendly text with beautiful images is for nature enthusiasts, gardeners, landscapers and plant lovers.
Elsa Pooley is a renowned author, botanical artist and garden designer with over five decades of experience. She is famous for her definitive field guides and has received an honorary Doctor of Science from the University of KZN.
Geoff Nichols is an award-winning horticulturist and natural historian. He pioneered South Africa’s first medicinal plant nursery and has authored several books on indigenous flora. Andrew Hankey is a senior horticulturist at Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, a respected succulent expert and a published scientific author and lecturer.
Book launch events are as follows:
5 April at Random Harvest Nursery, Mulderdrift, Gauteng, 10.30 am
26 April at Blackwood’s Hilton, Hilton College Road, KZN, 10 am
16 May at the Franschhoek Literary Festival Church Hall, 2.30 pm.
