IPAF PUBLIC ARTS FESTIVAL
Updated: Mar 28, 2023
Africa’s leading public arts festival, IPAF, takes place from 1-5 March 2023 at the Company’s Gardens in Cape Town. The seventh edition of the event will showcase local and international creative talent, featuring large scale public artworks, performances, art installations, murals, garden sculptures, outdoor pop-up exhibitions, panel talks and a visual exhibition by singer-songwriter Msaki. Artists from Europe, South America and other African countries will also be exhibiting. The festival’s vision is to grow a greater awareness of the powerful social and economic impact of public art to unleash the potential of the creative sector in Africa.
The venue will also be the start of the festival’s public art route, which visitors can do as a guided tour or with a self-guided map available on the website. IPAF has teamed up with local galleries including WorldArt, StateoftheART and Nel Gallery. The City of Cape Town has been supporting IPAF since its inception in 2017, providing opportunities to artists and highlighting the importance of art in the cultural and socio-economic marketplace.
At the same time, IPAF’s parallel conference event, the International Public Art Conference, returns for a second year, with talks from international speakers.
