INTERNATIONAL ZEBRA DAY
International Zebra Day was celebrated on 31 January 2025, and was dedicated to raising awareness about the conservation of these animals found in the local bush and national parks. With their distinctive black and white stripes, zebras are not only a symbol of African wildlife, but also play a critical role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystems.
To honour them, the Camouflage of Nature Gilded Gold-Plated 5 OZ Silver Zebra Coin 2023 offers collectors a beautiful tribute. Its intricate design celebrates zebras’ uniqueness, while reminding us to protect them for future generations.
South Africa is home to two of the three zebra species, including the Cape Mountain Zebra, which has made a great comeback thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, according to Dr Sue Snyman, Director of the Research School of Wildlife Conservation at the African Leadership University. She says that continued habitat protection and community involvement are crucial to their survival in the face of increasing pressures.
