GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL CELEBRATES 15 YEARS
Updated: Oct 27, 2022
The Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) has celebrated its 15th anniversary, having pioneered the transformation of the South African property sector. Results have driven measurable impact in terms of certification, training, accreditation, job creation and climate change mitigation. During this time, the organisation has reached 905 certifications in Africa across the Green Star, Net Zero, EWP and EDGE certifications, and the impact of these can be seen through the energy, water and carbon reductions achieved as a result of the measures required to achieve the certification.
During 2022, 165 buildings were certified, reflecting growth in the adoption of more sustainable building practices. Certification is awarded for 4, 5 or 6 Star Green Star ratings, ensuring that businesses live up to their green building claims.
GBCSA is one of 70 members of the World Green Building Council and collaborates with other councils across the globe, enabling access to a community of experts. Its annual convention has become the property industry’s premier gathering of experts and leaders in the field of sustainable building.
Through the development of numerous certification tools and the training and accreditation of professionals in the field of green building, the adoption of environmentally responsible practices in the property sector has become mainstream.
The annual Green Building Convention takes place in Cape Town (and virtually) from 2-4 November 2022.
