DIGITAL PLATFORM FOR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENTS
A new digital platform called Echo has been launched to make public participation in the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process more accessible. Echo bridges the gap between the public and environmental assessment practitioners, addressing challenges such as:
*information being presented in a fragmented way;
*public meetings not being accessible to everyone;
*language barriers; and
*specialist environmental studies that can be difficult to understand.
Echo addresses these issues through a number of digital features that enable information sharing and accessibility. It offers environmental consultancies a platform to make the public participation process easier, with some of the features including dynamic EIA project pages, proximity maps, auto-translate modules, summary sections, built-in forms to collect public comments and an easy account management system.
For the public, Echo offers a user-friendly online space where citizens can explore active EIAs and other environmental authorisation projects, find information presented in a digestible manner, and easily register as an Interested & Affected Party to provide a comment.
